The blue light emitted from screens can interfere with the production of melatonin, the hormone responsible for regulating sleep. Setting specific “screen-free” hours before sleeping can drastically improve sleep quality. This exercise allows the eye muscles to relax and can help reduce fatigue associated with prolonged blue light exposure.

Adjusting the lighting in your workspace is another practical method to reduce blue light exposure. Opting for warmer, softer lighting rather than harsh fluorescent lights can create a more soothing environment. Using desk lamps with adjustable brightness or warm-color bulbs can contribute to a healthier workspace and reduce the overall blue light that reaches your eyes.

Lastly, maintaining a balanced diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals can play a role in supporting overall eye health. Foods rich in vitamins C and E, along with omega-3 fatty acids, can help reduce the adverse effects of blue light. Including foods like carrots, leafy greens, and fatty fish can support retinal health and improve vision.

By implementing these best practices to reduce blue light exposure, individuals can protect their eyes and promote better sleep hygiene.
